I make joyful, insurrectionist theater.
My practice connects art-making, activism, community and teaching.
Theatre
My artistic universe is shaped by queer-punk aesthetics and scrappy, insurrectionist politics. My plays capitalize on theater’s live, visual aspects to create full-bodied performances celebrating human failure and redemption. Much of my work is created through collaboration, where I develop scripts in tandem with my co-conspirators, whether they are dancers, community members or a physical space.
Community
Whether I’m designing a conference, assembling an artistic team or building a collective impact campaign, community is essential. Trusting relationships allow people to take risks, do their best work and to become leaders. I allocate time to community building and I create warm, welcoming spaces that are accessible, inclusive and have clear communication guidelines. I also believe that a healthy dose of fun and joy helps bring out people’s creativity and brilliance.
Teaching
I teach writing through the lens of art as activism, investing students with skills, responsibility and real-world opportunities to share their work. As someone who came late to writing through a free class at the Los Angeles LGBTQ Center, I continue to create new, accessible spaces that cultivate community and foreground other marginalized voices.
